Electrostatic Precipitator Cleaning System for Small Scale Combustion

Electrostatic Precipitator Cleaning System

This one of our top articles from our list is titled. This paper Design and Implementation of an Electrostatic Precipitator and Its Cleaning System for Small Scale Combustion.

It is a simple wire-plate electrostatic precipitator (ESP) that was constructed in order to test the efficiency of collecting smoke particles from the combustion of rubberwood that is used as a source of biomass energy.

The ESP contains a collection cylinder electrode and 2 wire electrodes between the cylinder. The maximum input voltage of the Wheatstone bridge circuit using a high-voltage neon transformer was 10.5 kV (DC).

The gap between the cylinder and the distance between wires was adjustable. Results from the field test in a furnace indicate that the device could be used for a period of about one hour before cleaning the electrodes was required.

The collection efficiency was decreased during the course of wood-burning as the dust loading increased. Maximum efficiency was near 80% during the initial period.

The distance between the collection plate electrodes had a greater influence on efficiency than the distance between the wire electrodes.

The cleaning system used in this experiment was made from a row of PVC pipes to allow water to discharge radially to the cylinder electrodes on both sides. Efficiency was increased after 120.

This ESP is suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to alleviate the release of detrimental chemicals such as PAHs into the atmosphere.

Electrostatic Precipitator Cleaning System for Small Scale Combustion FAQ

What is an electrostatic air cleaner?

Electrostatic Air Purifiers work with static electricity to charge particles inside the air purifier. As a result, the charged particles stick to the sides of the internal filtration system and are removed from your indoor air. Unlike HEPA Air Purifiers, Electrostatic Air Purifiers do not use filters.

Are electrostatic air cleaners effective?

The agency reports that electrostatic precipitators have an efficiency of up to 98 percent according to this test (if the air passes through the device slowly), mainly because they can remove fine particles. However, this high initial efficiency depends on if the filter is clean.

How do you clean an ESP?

Impingers and ESP cells can be manually cleaned in a soak tank. Fill a soaking tub with detergent and hot water. As with the parts washer method, it is important to be certain that the detergent is compatible with aluminum. We would suggest a mildly alkaline cleaning solution.

Do electrostatic precipitators produce ozone?

Electrostatic precipitators create ozone because of the high‐voltage currents they pass through the air. The current is used to give an electrical charge to dust particles that are drawn into the devices by an electric fan.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of an electrostatic precipitator?

Electrostatic Precipitators Information

Advantages
Very high collection efficiencies, even for very small particles.
Can handle corrosive materials, wet materials, and high temperatures.

Disadvantages
Cannot control gaseous emissions
Very dependent on the electrical resistivity of the particulate.
